The hidden staircases that lace the hillsides of certain L.A. neighborhoods form a delightful network of walking “trails,” open to the public, that are historical reminders of a time when this was not a city of cars. Clustered around steep-streeted communities like Hollywood, Silver Lake, Echo Park, Mt. Washington, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades and elsewhere, they were once an integral part of a trolley system that served a vibrant, growing young city.
